‘BOREAL BEAST’ was so named to help people remember that ‘Beauty and the Beast’ belong together for cross-pollination. 'BOREAL BEAST’ overlaps with both ‘BOREAL BLIZZARD' and 'BOREAL BEAUTY’. It starts when ‘BOREAL BLIZZARD’ starts and ends when ‘BOREAL BEAUTY’ ends and is pollen compatible with both of them as well as ‘AURORA’.

'BOREAL BEAST’ is the closest selection for being in sync with ‘BOREAL BEAUTY’ for bloom time and that also has qualities showing commercial potential.

BOREAL BLIZZARD Haskap Plants *NEWEST U of S Release*BOREAL BLIZZARD Haskap Plants *NEWEST U of S Release*

'BOREAL BLIZZARD' berries are huge, for a haskap berry. The spoon in the photo is 3.5 cm wide! Well-pollinated fruits are easily greater than 3 grams.

Quoted from Dr. Bob Bors from the University of Saskatchewan "BOREAL BLIZZARD's berries are more than twice as heavy as ‘TUNDRA’ or ‘BOREALIS’ and are 3 times heavier than the largest varieties in our trial a decade ago. I’ve noticed most variety descriptions on the internet neglect to mention the weight of their berries. This is because some Haskap can have air pockets within the berries and long thin berries don’t weigh much. But some Haskap is very meaty and heavy, and ‘BOREAL BLIZZARD’ is one of them."

BOREALIS Haskap PlantsBOREALIS Haskap PlantsMost agree this is the sweetest haskap berry with a sweet tart flavour reminding you of blueberries, hinting of raspberry and plum.

The berries are plump, boxy and have achieved the largest sample size at the University of Saskatchewan. Mechanical processing could be difficult due to bleeding from the stem.

The University of Saskatchewan selected 'BOREALIS' as the most appropriate for U-Pick Orchards and Home Gardens.
